Our Successes

The mission of the Community Day Center is to create the accepting and welcoming place for our guests and to help them overcome adversity and move forward. We are happy and proud when they find comfort here and especialy when they have success in rebuilding their lives. Here are a few success stories in the words of our guests...

May 5, 2011: While homeless, Prince and Michelle met and got married at the Day Center. For nearly one year of living on the streets, inside ATMs, and public buildings, they have rented their own place in Roxbury. The Community Day Center gave them a small grant to help with their security deposit. Michelle said,"I never realize how difficult it was to find a place after I lost my job and my apartment. We are so happy." They will be back to particpate in our "Job Readiness" Program. We wish them the best!

Camille with her new apartment keys! (click to enlarge)April 7, 2011: Camille will be leaving next Thursday to live in her new apartment! She writes: "Thank you to the wonderful people I have met here.  I'll miss everyone very much." We'll miss her too, and we hope she'll come to visit!

“The Center has been giving me tremendous assistance and support, encouraging us to look for jobs and helping us find shelter and places to live”

“The Center provides facilities to us so that we can search for jobs, find encouragement, and interact with each other.  We are provided snacks, clothes, and help with transportation- so important for the job search” - Humphrey

“The Day Center appeals to me because I was coming from a negative place and needed a positive environment to come to. Even if someone were from a rough upbringing it gives them hope to come here and be accepted and welcomed. That helps you gain confidence, which gives you a better outlook on life and helps you look at things a bit differently.” - Prince

“The Day Center offers a lot, but what amount of the Center’s services I use is up to me. The Day Center has helped me to survive what is sometimes a seemingly hopeless situation” - Jon was homeless and suffered from alcoholism and drug addiction. He came to Waltham for its social services and learned of the Day Center as a result of attending AA in the same building.
